Prof. Ram Ramswamy

Ram is a distinguished scientist and was the President of the Indian Academy of Sciences (2016-18). His research interests are in the intersection of nonlinear science, statistical physics, and computational biology. He is also a Fellow of the Indian National Science Academy and the Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS). Post graduated in Chemistry from the IIT, Kanpur, Ram did his doctoral research (Ph.D.) from Princeton University. His academic and research career spans across leading institutions which include California Institute of Technology, where he worked with Prof. Rudolph A. Marcus, a Noble Laurette in Chemistry; the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research; the Jawaharlal Nehru University as one of the first members of the School of Physical Sciences (1986-2018); Institute for Molecular Science in Okazaki, Japan and Institute of Advanced Study, Princeton. He served as the Vice Chancellor of University of Hyderabad (2011-15) While at JNU, he was also on the faculty of the Centre for Computational Biology and Bioinformatics in the School for Computational and Integrative Sciences. More than a scientist, Ram is a creative and prolific writer. His monthly blog post which is more regular than many scientific journals, is a reader’s delight.
